10/10/10 Stewardship: Uwakili

Sunday saw the dawn of 10/10/10, a global work party day featuring concerted environmental projects occurring around the globe. Our resident enviro-volunteer, Cora, had been working for weeks on Daraja’s project- an adobe festival where all students, volunteers, and staff combined locally sourced sand, clay dirt, and straw to build hundreds of adobe bricks to build a shed for the garden. Brick forms had been built, piles of materials heaped together, and Daraja’s roaming band of cows had been repeatedly chased out of the straw. I was only able to participate for a bit, but the girls had a blast through the afternoon.
